Our Verona, NJ and Rutherford, NJ, dermatology practice is conveniently located to serve Sculptra biostimulator patients in Montclair, Nutley, Bloomfield, Caldwell, Essex Falls, Lyndhurst, Clifton, and Cedar Grove, Essex and Bergen Counties.

What is Sculptra®?

Sculptra is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment used to treat moderate and harsh wrinkles. It can also restore volume to areas of the patient’s face that have become hollow and gaunt, like the jawline, cheeks, and temples.

Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid injectable. While many people call it a dermal filler, the more accurate term is actually “collagen stimulator.” It increases the production of fibroblasts in the skin tissues, which in turn increases collagen protein production. This gradually restores natural volume to fill in aging issues.

What are the benefits of Sculptra®?

Designed to best benefit patients who experienced significant fat loss, these are some of the results patients come to at Geria Dermatology in the New Jersey area for a Sculptra treatment:

  • Restore youthful appearance
  • Smooth wrinkles and fine lines
  • Achieve softer skin
  • Soften or redefine contours
  • Long-lasting results
  • Non-invasive
  • Minimal downtime

Once completed, Sculptra’s benefits can last for two years, but as always, each patient is different and should expect their results to vary depending on their personal needs and treatment.

Who are the best candidates for Sculptra®?

Patients who are concerned about signs of aging but do not want to undergo a surgical cosmetic procedure are ideal candidates. Here are some of the other attributes to consider:

  • Deep wrinkles
  • Dissatisfaction with your aging appearance
  • Realistic goals for the procedure
  • No other underlying medical conditions
  • Generally healthy
  • Non-smoker

If you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, Sculptra may not be an ideal option for you. Patients who are prone to developing keloids may also not be good candidates for this injectable treatment. If you currently have a skin infection, it must be fully treated before coming in for Sculptra injections.

What’s the First Step?

The first step to getting a Sculptra treatment is to schedule a consultation. During this initial appointment, you will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns, goals, and expectations with your personal, certifiably trained provider.

During this appointment, your provider will evaluate your facial anatomy, assess your skin condition, and determine if Sculptra is the right treatment for you. They will explain the Sculptra procedure in detail, including the number of sessions needed, the expected timeline, and any potential risks or side effects.

Once every aspect of your treatment has been agreed on, your treatment plan will be made, including the targeted areas and the number of Sculptra sessions required, you can proceed with scheduling your treatment appointments, or we can begin right away.

What to expect on the day of a Sculptra® treatment

On the day of your procedure, while you are being prepped, we will walk you through the treatment as discussed in your consultation so you know what to expect. We will first clean the areas of the skin where the treatment will be administered and a numbing agent or a topical anesthetic will be applied so that you won’t feel any pain or discomfort.

Sculptra treatments can be performed in the comfort of our office and will not take more than 20 to 30 minutes.

Sculptra® recovery

There is no significant downtime or recovery period involved following a sculptra session. Patients can return to whatever they were doing beforehand, and this treatment can even be done during the patient’s lunch break.

Patients will be advised to avoid too much exposure to heat and any activity that would place excessive strain on their bodies. An ice pack can be used to help ameliorate any swelling in the area.

The results of sculptra can last for anywhere from two to five years. Results develop gradually over two to six months as new collagen is produced in the treatment areas.

How much does a Sculptra® cost in New Jersey?

The cost of a Sculptra can vary in cost depending on several factors, such as the severity of the aging signs being treated. Patients can learn about the price of their treatment during their consultation.

Sculptra® FAQ’S

During a Sculptra treatment, a numbing cream or local anesthetic may be applied to the treatment area to minimize any discomfort. The injections themselves may cause a slight stinging or pricking sensation, but it is generally well-tolerated by most patients. Additionally, Sculptra contains a built-in anesthetic, which helps to further reduce any potential discomfort.
