What is Microneedling?
Microneedling, otherwise known as percutaneous collagen induction therapy, is a relatively new, minimally invasive treatment that can be used to address several cosmetic concerns. Microneedling uses tiny needles to create “microchannels” in the skin. This stimulates the wound-healing cascade, resulting in new collagen and elastin production. Elastin and collagen are proteins that facilitate the remodeling of the skin tissues, which ultimately improves the health of the skin and clears away imperfections.
At Geria Dermatology, we use the SkinPen for our microneedling procedure. The SkinPen is a microneedling device that received clearance from the FDA after being clinically proven to be an effective and safe treatment option for skin issues.

What to expect on the day of Microneedling?

Next, the SkinPen device is passed over the treatment areas to create even results. Any serums administered penetrate deeper into the skin tissues through the microchannels, improving their efficacy.
Typically, the procedure takes about 30-60 minutes but it can vary based on every individual case.
Microneedling Recovery
Immediately after the treatment, you will notice a bright redness on the skin. The total healing time depends on the settings used and the number of overlapping passes needed for your skin’s condition. Treatments are usually well tolerated and most patients can return to work the very next day. For two to three days, you may notice mild swelling, redness, and flaking.
