If male-pattern baldness is the first thing that springs to mind when you think about hair loss, you’re not alone. But even though many men do experience some amount of balding or thinning as they age, hair loss is an equal-opportunity problem that affects aging women as well as younger adults of both genders. And regardless of your sex, if you’re suffering from hair loss, we can help you.
PRP THERAPY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy involves the following steps: First, the blood is drawn in our office. Then, the blood is spun down in a centrifuge, which allows for the separation of the components. Afterward, the platelet-rich portion is removed and injected into the scalp. The activated platelets in the PRP release growth factors that stimulate the hair follicles.
PRP helps stimulate natural hair regrowth, decrease hair loss, and increase hair density and thickness.
If you are in overall good health, have weak hair follicles, and are experiencing small areas of alopecia areata on your scalp, you are an ideal candidate for this treatment.
Patients who are undergoing cortisone therapy, have low blood pressure, or are smokers may not be good candidates for PRP hair restoration.
Additionally, patients with blood disorders may not be ideal candidates for this treatment, particularly if these disorders affect platelet count or the ability to clot properly.
PRP therapy for hair loss is initially performed as a series of three treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart. After completing the initial series, maintenance is recommended with one treatment every 6-12 months.
PRP is a way that hair growth can be stimulated, which is beneficial for patients who are not good candidates for a hair transplant or for those who cannot afford the downtime of a transplant.
Results from PRP therapy vary and are typically seen within six months of the first treatment. The best outcomes are seen in patients who have hair thinning, but not completely bald spots on their heads.
Looking over PRP hair restoration before and after photos is the best way to see how your results may look. It is important to understand that results will vary and there is never a guarantee of success.
A multi-therapy regimen for optimal results may also include topical and oral medications as well as nutritional supplements.
Yes, this treatment is safe and effective for both men and women.
The most common form of hair loss treated with PRP is androgenetic alopecia, which is otherwise known as male pattern baldness in men or female pattern hair loss in women.
A minority of patients may experience mild soreness and swelling, which should resolve within 24 hours.
Each session will take about 30-45 minutes.
You can immediately resume your normal activities after treatment with no need for recovery time or downtime. However, we ask you to refrain from heavy exercise the day of your treatment.
PRP hair restoration costs between $650 and $1,300 per treatment. The exact price will depend on the details of your treatment.
Dr. Geria and the staff are amazing. I been doing PRP or Platelet-rich plasma treatment. The treatment is working and my own mother noticed hair growth. I love the fact that Dr Geria was very upfront and realistic about the treatment and progress. Dr. Geria explained where the growth would occur how much and how the treatment works. I would recommend visiting Dr. Geria for PRP treatment.
