Spider Veins Q & A

What are spider veins?

Spider veins, which get their name from their web-like appearance, are a milder type of varicose vein that occurs closer to the surface of your skin. Often red or blue, spider veins form a visible network that may cover a small or a large area of skin.

Facial spider veins otherwise known as "broken blood vessels" may be brought on by hormone changes, long-term or intense sun exposure, and injury.

How can surface laser treatments help?

Surface laser treatments are a safe, effective, and noninvasive way to treat spider veins and small varicose veins. The laser is especially useful for treating facial spider veins, or those mainly caused by hormonal changes or sun damage.

Although this treatment is sometimes called a laser “surgery” for visible spider and varicose veins, it doesn’t involve any incisions or anesthesia.

Instead, it uses a handheld device that delivers intense pulses of laser energy directly into the unwanted veins, effectively sealing them shut and making them less visible.

Surface laser treatments target spider veins without damaging any of the surrounding tissues, which means potential side effects are minimal, and you can resume your day once the procedure is over.

Some spider veins require multiple surface laser treatments to disappear entirely, and Dr. Geria lets you know what course of treatment to expect.
