What is a VI Peel?
The VI Peel is a medium-depth chemical peel that works to peel the epidermis and upper layer of the dermis to improve signs of aging and unwanted pigmentation.
What are its benefits?
VI Peels include a variety of benefits, such as:
- Smoother, firmer skin appearance: improves the tone, texture, and clarity of your skin
- Younger skin, clearer and more luminous complexion
- Reduces sun spots, hyperpigmentation, and melasma
- Softens expression lines and wrinkles
- Less expensive and less downtime compared to ablative laser resurfacing
- It can be used on multiple parts of the body, including the chest, hands, and neck
- Stimulates collagen and elastin production for firmer skin
- Improves acne scarring

BEFORE AND AFTER
How does VI Peel work?
The working principle of chemical peeling is to remove dead skin from the outermost layer of the skin through a chemical method, revealing new healthy cells and radiant, renewed skin.
VI Peel is formulated with mild concentrations of 1%-2% phenol, salicylic acid, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), retinoic acid, and vitamin C. This medium depth of penetration provides a stronger peel, but with a short recovery period. For many candidates, the VI Peel is a great way to maintain healthy, radiant skin and prevent acne and dyspigmentation. It is bactericidal.
What are the pre-treatment recommendations?
One week before the procedure: Stop taking prescription or over-the-counter retinoids and avoid any products containing alpha hydroxy acids. Avoid laser hair removal, electrolysis, wax, and depilatory creams.
How long does the procedure take?
Usually 30 minutes or less. It’s pretty quick and easy!
What happens when you perform a VI Peel?
When getting a VI Peel, the skin will first be thoroughly cleansed, removing all surface dirt and oil. The VI Peel solution is then applied to the skin twice. After the initial application of the first layer, patients often feel a slight tingling.
Shortly after, the second layer is applied and left on the skin until it begins to feel dry, indicating that the outermost layer of skin is being lifted. VI Peel is gentle enough that a neutralizing solution is not needed once the peel is complete. About three days after treatment, your skin will begin to peel. The process will take approximately four days and the treatment will be completed approximately 7 days after use.
After the VI Peel treatment, you can resume activities immediately, but it is recommended that you avoid strenuous exercise and sun exposure during skin peeling. Wear a hat and use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to avoid sun exposure.
Please note that results may vary and it can take 4-6 weeks to see noticeable differences. We usually recommend a series of at least 3 VI Peels spaced monthly to see optimal results.
VI Peel Precision Plus
If you are looking for more dramatic results for hyperpigmentation, this type of peel is the one for you. It acts in a similar way to the original VI peel formula but is 50% stronger and more intense than the original VI Peel.
This VI peel is perfect as a solution to treat skin discolorations, helping specifically with sun damage, melasma, hyperpigmentation, etc. At the same time, the VI Peel Precision Plus offers a deep exfoliation that gives the skin a more radiant texture and appearance. This process takes approximately 7 days.
Besides the original ingredients, hydroquinone is added to inhibit pigmentation when your skin exfoliates. Finally, kojic acid is added, which combats the discoloration of the skin when it begins to heal. Both of these chemicals create an even skin and glowing tone that many people crave.
The difference between the VI Peel Precision Plus and a regular VI Peel is that the Precision Plus specifically targets sun spots and pigmented skin. If you have dark sun spots or other pigmented areas, VI Peel Precision Plus may be the better option for you. The VI Peel Precision Plus is a very safe and effective treatment.
Side effects from chemical peels are rare but can result in allergic reactions, discoloration, burns, and scarring.
Who should not undergo a VI Peel?
People with the following conditions should refrain from the VI peel:
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Phenol or aspirin allergies
- Inflamed skin with open wounds
- Use of isotretinoin (Accutane®) in the last 3 months
- Active cold sores or herpes simplex virus infection
- Chemotherapy or radiation in the last 6 months
How Much Does VI Peel Cost?
The cost for VI Peel will depend on several factors. The number of sessions will influence the final price, as will the severity of the cosmetic issues being addressed.
